You should also have a variety of fruit and vegetables in your diet to strengthen your immune system. Different coloured vegetables have different amounts and types of vitamins and nutrients. For example, orange fruits and vegetables are likely to have more vitamin C whereas green fruits and vegetables have more iron and calcium.
Choose Good Carbohydrate Types
You should base your meal around a type of carbohydrate as it’s these that make you feel fuller for longer. It may even stop you reaching for unhealthy snacks throughout the day, so improving your diet to a healthier lifestyle.
Types of carbohydrates include bread, rice, potatoes, and pasta. However, a lot of these carbs can be refined and a lot of the nutrients discarded. It is better to choose carbohydrates which are full of fibre such as whole wheat options; these will make you feel fuller for longer.
Cut Down On Saturated Fats and Refined Sugars
Too much saturated fats can be problematic and cause issues such as high cholesterol. Foods in this category include cheese, butter, fatty meat, and chocolate. However, it is important to have some fat in your diet as it is essential for energy and growth. Just be weary on how much you consume.
Sugary foods, such as cakes, sweets, and sugary drinks, are not beneficial to the body. Sugar is very high energy and should be consumed in moderation. However, having some treats now and again will help to improve your mental health.
Other tips to mention
For omega 3, eat oily fish and seeds such as flaxseed.
Try to reduce your salt intake (6g) as too much salt will increase chances of high blood pressure.
Drink lots of water, or other healthy drinks such as tea. Drink more when exercising
Be active! Exercise can help your organs keep healthy and burn off some calories.
