Dream Big, Build Bigger: Inspiring Young Engineers with the Mars Rover Project

At Rewise Learning, we believe in creating opportunities that spark curiosity, challenge creativity, and empower young minds to explore the possibilities of STEM education in a practical way. We recently started an exciting new initiative called Lift Off with STEM, also known as our Mars Rover Project, delivered in collaboration with Airbus.

This workshop allows students to become engineers for the day, designing and building their very own Mars Rovers before putting them to the test in a rover race. Across two days, participants gained hands-on experience with robotics, teamwork, and problem-solving, inspiring them to think bigger about their futures.

Sparking Passion and Awakening Curiosity

We have only recently started delivering these workshops, which have been in development for months. We have been delighted to receive such positive feedbacks from students so far. One participant shared “I loved it because engineering is one of my favourite things.” Another remarked, “It was a little hard, but I always enjoy a challenge, and it was really fun.

The workshop wasn’t just about building robots; it was about improving confidence and fostering a love of learning. As one student put it, “Dream big, build bigger.

When creating a project that is both challenging and enjoyable for young people, we must take care to consider what will motivate them to keep going when things get difficult. The act of creating something with their own hands and then getting to test its capabilities in a competition pushed many students to succeed. One student said “What I enjoyed most about the workshop was building the robot and fixing in the wire. I also really loved the race activity.

Empowering Educators to Keep the Momentum Going

Beyond its immediate impact on students, the workshop provided teachers with tools to carry forward the excitement of STEM in their classrooms. One teacher shared, “What an amazing experience and opportunity! I can’t thank the team at Rewise for delivering this to our students. We’ve had so much fun over the course of the two days and can’t wait to use the robot kits to run our own Lift Off workshops. Would highly recommend this workshop to other schools.”

Another teacher reflected on the student engagement during the workshop, stating, “Great workshops, kids were really engaged the whole time.”

Inspiring the Next Generation

It can be difficult to assess the impact of a project like this, but when students say “Carry on doing the workshop for all years. It was amazing and fun to do.”, we know that our work has touched their lives. Caitlin Puddle, a member of the Rewise team, tells us that "Many things about my school days are forgotten now but I remember every single workshop that encouraged us to learn and think differently. I know that the workshops Rewise is delivering will have the same lasting impact on many participants. I wish I could go back to school now and experience this wonderful Mars Rover workshop because the innovation and creativity involved surpasses anything I did in the workshops I was able to do at school."

At Rewise Learning, that’s exactly what we aim to do—create workshops that inspire young people to see themselves as the innovators and engineers of tomorrow.

The Mars Rover Project is just one example of how hands-on, real-world learning can unlock potential. With partners such as Airbus, we are able to continue empowering young people with new experiences and the ability to confidently shape their futures.
