Many people think of confidence as a powerful and desirable trait but fail to understand its full significance. Confidence empowers people to pursue their goals with tenacity, stand strong in the face of rejection, and tackle tricky challenges. A lack of confidence, on the other hand, can stifle creativity and prevent people from pursuing exciting opportunities.
In this way, confidence is a key determining factor in personal success. Confidence is often seen as something you either have or don't since most of our instinctual behaviours have already been learned. However, there are certain things you can do in order to slowly build your confidence and self esteem.
At Rewise Learning, we witnessed how building self-confidence can transform lives. Through our workshops, participants gain confidence that can be transferred to various aspects of their life. Our music workshops build creative confidence and encourage participants to speak up about their experiences and feel secure in their abilities. Our STEM workshops build confidence in subjects that can be incredibly difficult to navigate. There is nothing more satisfying than finally figuring out how to practically apply scientific principles to real world scenarios.
Discovering your personal confidence can be one of the greatest things that you can do in life.
How Can We Build Self Confidence?
Do Things That Make You Happy
In your spare time, do things that make you happy. Whether that’s getting out and socialising with your friends or going outside hiking, cycling, or running. Doing something that will boost your mood will give you more self esteem and confidence. Putting time and energy into the things you love encourages you to continue learning and growing. These are essential things when attempting to increase confidence. If you feel like your confidence is lacking in one area of life, boosting your confidence in other areas can help to increase your overall self esteem.
Think about your goals
When working on confidence, make sure to manage your expectations. If you have a terrible fear of public speaking, do not set your goals so high as to make you feel daunted by the prospect of completing them. Your long-term goal may be to give a presentation in front of 50 people in your department at work. Start out with a goal of presenting to family and friends, once you feel confident doing this, you can try making small talk with strangers. The more you do something with positive results, the greater your confidence will grow.
Take every opportunity that comes your way
With a lack of confidence comes a tendency to turn down opportunities when you aren't certain if they fit you. Confidence only comes to those who consistently put themselves out of their comfort zone, and everyone has a comfort zone. Even someone who seems to have total confidence in themselves will have a limit, but continuing to push that limit is perhaps how they got to the place of confidence they now reside in. Following through on something that makes you nervous brings a sense of personal pride, so no matter how daunting the task, it encourages you to take on similar challenges again.

Rewise Learning Developing Confidence and Self Awareness
Some people are naturally confident, others have to work hard to become more self-assured. Our Virtual Youth Club offers many resources for young people to increase communication and decision making skills, which both contribute to overall confidence. Though aimed at young people, these resources could be beneficial for participants of all ages.
